Garment photoshoot

PROJECT 2

The garment project ...

This project was inspired by an exhibition in the Metropolitan Museum. In the MET, there were exhibitions of the rooms during the times of King Louis the 13th,14th, and 15th. My garment was specifically inspired by the Lauzun Room. The Lauzun room was the bedroom. It was beautiful! The colors of the room were light blue and gold. The room was elegant and inspirational. I was specifically drawn to the drapery on the bedding and the gold leaves on the headboard. So, I decided to make the top of the dress look like the gold leaves on the headboard and the bottom draped like the bedding drapery. The garment was to be made of paper and plastic, this is where we get creative... I decided to drape the bottom with black garbage bags and make the top of gold paper. That same day I went to see the Punk Exhibit in the MET, definitely altered my design process. Once I saw the exhibit I was so inspired! So, I took the 2 inspirations and put them together. My dress relates to the "chaos to couture" aspect of the exhibit. Instead of making a classic dress inspired by the room, I decided to spice it up a bit. I draped the bottom but it was held together with safety pins and had a slit down the front. This made the dress look destroyed like the Punk exhibit. Once I added the gold structured top in the shape of leaves, it gave the dress a more couture and chic look. So in the end, the look I was going for was "chic to destroyed".

The story behind the photoshoot ...

First off, no alcohol was consumed during this process (purely a prop).

Since the inspiration was "chic to destroyed", I pictured this scene in my head. A 22 year old model went to a red carpet event at night and found herself hungover in a ditch the next morning. She is very confused and looks like a mess. Her hair is all messy and she seems to not be wearing her shoes. Luckily she found her shoes and now has to figure out how to get home.

Just a few of the pictures...
